I think a good place to begin would be to explain a little bit about what the World Academy for Women is all about. This is the inaugural year for this program and it is being started at SIAS International University that is located near Zhengzhou, Henan Province. If you look at a map of China it is just a little south of the Yellow River in central portion of China. SIAS is the first solely American-owned University in Central China. Affiliated with Zhengzhou University and in cooperation with Fort Hays State University of Kansas, the students are offered classes such Western Civilization. The east meets west philosophy is a perfect place for the World Academy to begin. The Academy will identify and enroll women at SIAS campus who aspire to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others, to achieve success for themselves while encouraging others to grow and develop and to address issues that call for thoughtful solutions and immediate responses. As one of the Academy facilitators, I will be helping the girls to find their own path, express their passion as a woman and create the world they want to live in. There are eight modules, each a month long that cover areas that teach the girls a variety of leadership skills and give them tools for self empowerment. During the program the girls will attend weekly academic and coaching sessions while working on a group project that will be directed toward achieving the objectives set out by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. I will be going to China to teach with Susan Brooks who is a personal friend and extraordinary business coach and we will be team teaching Module 5. The title of this module is "Self Empowerment: Mind and Body" and as I continue to blog I will be explaining more about just exactly what we will be teaching.
